One of the Longest Standing Jewellery Shops in Bordeaux
Bordeaux, a city famous for its boutiques, having one of the longest pedestrianised shopping streets in Europe. It’s here you will find l‘Univers d’Edouard, one of the longest standing jewellery shops in Bordeaux. A boutique which has exceptional quality jewellery at affordable prices.
This is the story of how L’Univers d’Edouard arrived on the streets of Bordeaux. The tale begins with Edouard who in the mid 1900s was a diamond dealer specialising in fantasy jewellery. He would travel from Paris to Deauville and everywhere in between with his young son Alain as his sidekick. From the age of six Alain accompanied his father and it was this that propelled him into the sparkling world of jewellery.
The First Opening of the Boutique in Bordeaux
Over 40 years ago Alain decided to take a leap of faith and open a boutique in the heart of Bordeaux. They display a wide selection of watches, necklaces and earrings. The boutique soon became popular amongst the Bordelais due to their superb quality of merchandise. A large selection of their jewellery is made in France and guaranteed for 2 years!
Moving on to the Third Generation
Alain has a daughter called Margot who as a teenager, during the school holidays, would come into the shop to help out. This in turn lit the flame in Margot to also enter into the jewellery industry. After she graduated she went on to work for companies such as the famous French jeweller, Marc Orian. This was in order to gain a more in depth experience of the profession.
Margot spent over a year developing the business with her father. Then on a July summers day sitting at the garden table, Alain said to his daughter Margot, “Perhaps I ought to take a holiday”. It was at this precise moment that Margot realised she had finally earned her fathers trust to run the business.
Modernising the Business
Margot soon decided the boutique needed modernising therefore they renovated the entire shop. They also came to the decision to change the name of the business. L’Univers d’Edouard now gives homage to Margot’s grandfather Edouard. Who without his passion and dedication to the trade, the life of both Alain and Margot would have turned out very different.
